I Started as most do, with a simple tomato cage. I
boutght 6 of the 33" size. Once built they should
stand about 30". Now, once I got to looking at them I
realized that if I wrapped them as is, they will come out
looking pretty triangular shaped instead of cone
shaped. Many solve this by buying double the
number of cages and then cutting them and rejoining
two together to make a more conical shape. I choose
a different way.
I used zip ties to join the
tips of the cages
together. I just love this
stuff!
Once tied, I then bought
some inexpensive thin
wire. I strung it up and
down between the
supports of the cage.
This will keep the wire
from stretching straight
from one support to
another and will keep
the conical shape that I
desire.
The first set of strings are zip tied heavily about the tree, each
subsequent light strand is layed on top of the next to make a
thick mass with is very "tree-appearing." I started with white
which is 300 bulbs, then Green another 300 bulbs and finally
red, 240 bulbs. (I had bought a bunch of red bulbs from Home
Depot which came in 70 bulb strings so I joined two of the 70
bulb strings with one 100 bulb string.)
